Hanover (dpa / lni) - Because of the heavy snowfall, regional rail traffic in Lower Saxony continues to be disrupted.

The railway announced on Sunday evening that regional traffic is expected to be suspended until Monday morning (10:00 a.m.).

Only the regional trains of the RE5 line between Cuxhaven and Hamburg should continue to run, as it was said in a rail message.

Local traffic should then gradually be resumed on Monday.

On Sunday, heavy snowfall and frozen points significantly hindered regional rail traffic in Lower Saxony.

The regional rail operator Metronom is also preparing for delays at the start of operations on Monday morning.

"We expect that it will not start normally," said a metronome speaker on Sunday evening.

On the Enno connections Wolfsburg-Braunschweig-Hildesheim and Wolfsburg-Gifhorn-Hanover, operations could probably only be resumed in the morning.

With regard to the metronome routes such as Hanover-Göttingen and Hanover-Uelzen as well as the Erixx routes Bad Harzburg-Goslar-Hanover, Bad Harzburg-Braunschweig and Braunschweig-Gifhorn-Uelzen, the situation in the evening is not yet foreseeable.

The spokesman called on passengers to find out about the situation on Monday morning on the Internet and with timetable apps.

"With a gradual resumption of operations can be expected from the morning hours of Monday at the earliest," it said in the evening.
