Kassel (dpa / lhe) - The police have found some of the sheep that were stolen from pastures in northern Hesse last year.

The animals stood together with almost 100 others on two meadows in Niestetal (Kassel district) and Marsberg (Hochsauerlandkreis) a few kilometers beyond the border with North Rhine-Westphalia.

As the police and the public prosecutor in Kassel announced on Friday, a 26-year-old man was arrested.

He is said to have stolen the sheep and offered them for sale on the Internet along with pasture fences and animal accessories.

The stolen sheep owners had seen the classifieds and informed the police.

During searches of several apartments and barns in Kassel and Marsberg, the officials found extensive evidence on Wednesday.

It was initially unclear how many of the sheep found had actually been stolen beforehand.

Because of the extensive investigation, the officers were initially only able to clearly identify some of the animals and return them to their owners, as a police spokeswoman said.
