Potsdam (dpa / bb) - According to the State Office for Statistics, almost a quarter fewer bush berries were harvested in Brandenburg last season than in 2019. 2065 tons were picked, the authority announced on Wednesday.

The onset of winter in March and late frosts for flowering in May are responsible for the lower harvest.

The flowers were seriously damaged.

The heat and drought that followed in the third year affected the quality of the berries, some of which could not be harvested.

Bushberries grew to 1,163 hectares in the previous year - 13 hectares more than in 2019. Cultivated blueberries - the most important fruit - are on the largest area of 407 hectares.

1310 tons could be harvested, 14 percent less than in the previous year.

Sea buckthorn thrives on 330 hectares in the country.

372 tons were harvested on an area of 125 hectares - the bushes are only harvested every two to three years.

The harvest of the aronia berries almost failed because of the night frosts in May: Only 14 tons were harvested on 199 hectares, 95 percent less than in 2019. 56 farms in the country are engaged in the harvest of bush berries.
