Munich (dpa) - Cycling President Rudolf Scharping has described the judgments in the trial of Erfurt doping doctor Mark S. as “consistent”.

"The awareness of the criminal machinations that also exist in top-class sport is very heightened," said the head of the Association of German Cyclists and spoke of a "criminally international network".

Mark S. was sentenced to four years and ten months in prison on January 15 for years of blood doping to athletes and dangerous physical harm.

He was also banned from working for three years.

The medical doctor's defense has appealed against the judgment.

Previously, the former Austrian professional cyclist Stefan Denifl was sentenced to two years imprisonment for serious commercial fraud because of his involvement in the Aderlass operation.

Denifl, who had confessed to blood doping without intent to defraud before the Innsbruck Regional Court, was suspended for 16 months.
