Vatican City 06 December 2014 The Promoter of Justice of the Vatican Tribunal has opened an investigation against the former president of the IOR, Angelo Caloia, and the former director general Lelio Scaletti accused of embezzlement for real estate transactions that took place in the period 2001-2008.

The investigation is also extended to the lawyer Liuzzo accused of competition.

Vatican sources report this.

The accounts at the IOR of Caloia and Scaletti were seized as a precaution.

Confirmation of the opening of the investigation was also given by the spokesman for the Vatican Press Office, Father Federico Lombardi.

"The problem - said Father Lombardi - was presented to the Judiciary of the Vatican City State - by the same IOR authorities following the internal verification operations launched last year".

"We are very pleased that the Vatican authorities are acting decisively," said Jean-Baptiste de Franssu, president of the IOR's Board of Superintendence.
