According to several Indian news sites, a part of the factory, called the Serum Institute of India (SII), is on fire.

The factory part must currently have been under construction.

The rescue service in Pune is said to have sent five units to the site.

Vaccinate against corona

The Serum Institute produces millions of doses of Astra Zeneca's and Oxford University's covid-19 vaccine.

However, that part of the production is not affected by the fire, according to information from sources to various media.

SVT has contacted Astra Zeneca for a comment.

- It will not affect the production of covid-19 vaccine, says a source at the institute.

According to the news agency Reuters, no one died in the fire, whether anyone was injured in the incident is unclear.
