THE ESSENTIAL
At 78 years old, Joe Biden becomes the President of the United States this Wednesday, alongside his Vice President Kamala Harris, the first woman to take up this post.
In Washington, the security measures surrounding the ceremony are exceptional: 25,000 soldiers of the National Guard, thousands of police officers and a red zone delimited by fences and barbed wire.
Donald Trump refused to attend the ceremony: he must fly one last time aboard Air Force One to reach his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, where he will begin his life as a former president .
Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton will have front row seats in Washington.

2:20 p.m .: A crowd ... of flags
Covid and maximum security require, there will be no crowds gathered on the huge esplanade of the "National Mall" in Washington to attend the inauguration of the president.
Instead of his supporters, Joe Biden will face more than 190,000 flags planted to represent this absent audience.
Washington's National Mall tonight covered with 191,500 flags and 56 pillars of light (for the 56 states + territories) that represent those who could not come to Biden's nomination with the Covid.
