Halle (dpa / sa) - The trains are rolling again at the main station in Halle.

The four-day blockade was over, said a spokesman for Deutsche Bahn on Sunday evening.

The modernization and renovation work, which has lasted more than six years, is now essentially complete.

Among other things, new tracks, platforms and electronic signal boxes were built.

Shops, service and catering facilities were renewed.

According to the Deutsche Bahn, the main station was closed to train traffic from January 14th to 17th in order to "integrate the newly built tracks and overhead lines into the existing infrastructure and into the electronic interlocking."

During the construction work, travelers were affected by closures, diversions, cancellations, replacement bus services and changed train travel times.

Halle Central Station is an important rail hub in Germany.

Before the pandemic, tens of thousands of travelers frequented the main station every day.

Many commuters to and from Leipzig also used the S-Bahn.

Halle is also part of the new Berlin-Munich high-speed line.

According to previous information, the cost of the renovation was 850 million euros.
