It is the ongoing pandemic that has caused a sharp reduction in demand, especially for long-haul flights, which in turn has made Norwegian's long-haul operations - according to the company itself - unsustainable.

The company has therefore now chosen to wind it up.

- Our most important focus now is to build a strong and profitable Norwegian so that we can retain as many jobs as possible.

It will take a long time before the demand for long-distance travel returns and therefore we have chosen to focus on a strong European route network when we emerge from the reorganization process, says Norwegian's CEO Jacob Schram in the press release.

Norwegian will, however, retain domestic travel in Norway, travel in the Nordic region and between the Nordic region and other destinations in Europe.

The decision to stop flying long-distance will affect many employees, according to the company.

- This decision will unfortunately affect many of our employees and is therefore a difficult decision to make.

I would like to thank all the colleagues concerned for their many years of efforts at Norwegian, says Jacob Schram.

Customers with bookings affected by the changes will be contacted and future trips canceled will be refunded.
