Weimar (dpa / th) - According to Health Minister Heike Werner (Linke), Thuringia is currently checking whether there have been any interruptions in cooling during the transport of the corona vaccine from the US manufacturer Moderna.

"I hope not," said Werner on Tuesday in Weimar.

Thuringia received the first 1200 doses of the Moderna vaccine on Tuesday.

After the preparation from the Mainz manufacturer Biontech, it is the second corona vaccine available in Germany.

The state of Berlin had previously announced that it would initially withhold its Moderna vaccine doses because of suspected quality defects.

The reasons are doubts as to whether the vaccine was properly transported and refrigerated before it was taken over by the State of Berlin.

Brandenburg also reported problems.

There it is also checked whether there were any cooling problems with the distribution.

In Thuringia, according to the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, the Moderna vaccine will only be used in those 15 vaccination centers that will go into operation in a second stage from February 3rd.

According to KV, only the delivery from the manufacturer Biontech will be used in the vaccination contact points opened on Wednesday.

KV vaccination coordinator Jörg Mertz cited the different vaccination rhythms as the reason for the later Moderna use: two individual vaccinations are required for both vaccines.

The break in between is four weeks at Moderna and three weeks at Biontech.

Vaccination centers would have to organize the second vaccinations for the preparations differently.

Those who register for the vaccination in Thuringia will always receive the first and follow-up appointment together.
