“I will starve until they figure out the validity and legality of my detention in the pre-trial detention center,” the human rights activist quoted the former schema-monk as saying.
The POC recalled that on December 30, 2020, Romanov informed the commission of his intention to hold office.
"A representative of the administration of the pre-trial detention center confirmed to us that on January 5, 2021, Romanov filed an official hunger strike in disagreement with the actions of the investigating authorities," the interlocutor of RT said.
According to him, Romanov said that he does not drink, he only rinses his mouth and moistens his lips with water, and also that he has lost several kilograms of weight.
Romanov was detained on the night of December 29, 2020.
He was charged under three articles of the Criminal Code: about inclining to commit suicide, about arbitrariness and about insulting religious feelings.
The Basmanny Court of Moscow authorized the arrest of Nikolai Romanov for two months.
