The big day for PSA and Fiat-Chrysler has arrived: the shareholders of the two groups are meeting by videoconference on Monday to take the last step necessary for their marriage.

In principle, they should approve this merger of equals, at 50-50, which will make the new group, called Stellantis, the world number 4 in the automobile, behind Volkswagen, Toyota and the Renault Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance.

This rapprochement was not obvious.

The Italian-American group had first turned to the Renault Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance in May 2019. But Carlos Tavares, the boss of PSA, very skillfully took advantage of the tensions within the Franco-Japanese group to revive discussions, and the merger project was formalized in the fall of 2019. Carlos Tavares will take over the operational management of the new group.
