Schwerin / Waren (dpa / mv) - After years of investigations, the district court Schwerin begins the infidelity proceedings against the ex-top management of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (Awo) from Waren an der Müritz in February.

As a court spokesman said on Monday, the former managing director Peter Olijnyk is accused of infidelity in three particularly serious cases, his former district chairman and Awo vice-regional chief Götz-Peter Lohmann aiding in infidelity.

At the start of the trial on February 11th, the charges should be read out and statements from the accused should be accepted.

Then ten more days of negotiations are planned.

The enrichment scandal came to light in 2016.

It was the occasion for a state parliament investigation committee and for investigations by the Awo regional association into salary practice.

According to the public prosecutor, the accused are said to have concluded contracts for Olijnyk with inappropriately high remuneration, royalties and pension entitlements in disregard of the statutes of the Awo district association.

At the same time there was an employment contract for the 78-year-old ex-district chairman with a subsidiary.

In addition, he is said to have received around 675,000 euros without corresponding work.

In both cases, according to the investigations, only the accused's signatures were found, a third independent signature was missing.

The 72-year-old Olijnyk is said to have received sums of money and claims totaling 1.2 million euros from 2005 to 2016, when he was terminated without notice.

In a civil process, he has already been legally sentenced to repay 390,000 euros.

The men, who so far denied the allegations or remained silent, are also accused of having shifted assets to family members because they were threatened with criminal proceedings.
