Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - The Hessian security initiative “Kompass” is popular despite the restrictions in the corona pandemic.

In 2020, another 20 cities and municipalities were included in the state program, said Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU) of the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden.

A total of 85 municipalities with more than 2.4 million people have now taken part in the initiative.

Another twelve municipalities are to be included in the safety program for spring 2021.

The Interior Minister announced that there were 27 other municipalities on the list of the Interior Ministry as interested parties.

The aim of the program is to optimize security and the subjective feeling of security on the doorstep in the network of police, municipalities and citizens.

Important components of “Kompass” (KOMmunalProgrAmm SicherheitsSiegel) include video surveillance, the on-site policemen and the voluntary police service.

"The Hessians should not only live in one of the safest federal states, but should also feel safe," said Beuth.

With “Compass” there is now better networking of security partners in the municipalities.

The on-site citizen surveys also make it clearer in which places and in which rooms the residents feel less safe.

These structures will also be built on in the future in order to achieve an interlinking of the objectively safe situation with a good feeling of security on site.
