Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - According to a survey, environmentally and climate-friendly behavior among the citizens of North Rhine-Westphalia once again plays a major role in the good intentions for the new year.

Almost two thirds of the respondents (63 percent, previous year: 64) affirmed this category as a good resolution for 2021, as shown in a representative survey for the health insurance company DAK-Gesundheit.

Among 14 to 29-year-olds, 75 percent (previous year: 70) adopt a more environmentally and climate-friendly behavior.

Well over half of the respondents want to “avoid or reduce stress” (60 percent as in the previous year) and have “more time for family and friends” (59 percent, minus 1 point).

As in the previous year, more sport and exercise are in fourth place in the ranking.

This is what 57 percent of those surveyed want to take on - only one percentage point when working from home than a year ago.

This is followed by a healthier diet (52) and more time for yourself (49).

According to the survey, more than one in three wants to lose weight (36 percent, previous year 33).

Significantly more than one in four people are determined to use less mobile phones, computers and the Internet.

With 29 percent (previous year: 27), this resolution moved up one place in the ranking from 9 to 8. Compared to 2014, the percentage (15 at the time) has almost doubled.

«The Corona crisis has promoted digitization and we have benefited from it in our work and in our private lives.

It is important, however, to create space for mobile phones and the like outside of work, ”explained the head of the DAK state representation in North Rhine-Westphalia, Klaus Overdiek.

Being more economical (26), watching less television (19), less alcohol (15) and giving up smoking (11) follow in the lower places in the ranking.

The stamina was less during the pandemic than in previous years, as DAK-Gesundheit further reports.

According to their own statements, half lasted longer than a quarter of a year.

In the two previous years, the values were 58 and 59 percent, significantly higher than the 50 percent in the current year.

For 22 percent of those surveyed, it was over after two to three months.

In 2019, 17 percent named this time span, in 2018 it was only 12 percent.

"In times of crisis it is particularly difficult to stick to good resolutions and at the same time a healthy lifestyle is particularly important," emphasized Overdiek.

Realistic goals are helpful.

Sub-goals could also make it easier to hold out for a long time overall.
