The Slovenian Martin Cater surprised by winning the World Cup downhill in Val d'Isère on Sunday, the French dean Johan Clarey finishing 5th.

Clarey, who will celebrate his 40th birthday in January, came close to the podium and victory: starting number 15 after most of the favorites, he still had the best time at three-quarters of the Oreiller-Killy track, but he weakened at the end round to finally fail 42 hundredths from the victory.

Martin Cater (27), bib 41 on Sunday, obtained his first victory on the world circuit after never having obtained a podium.

His best result so far was a 6th place in the Alpine Combined at Wengen in 2019.

Another surprise, the Austrian Otmar Striedinger finished 2nd at 22 / 100th, his fourth World Cup podium in ten years of career.

The holder of the big Norwegian globe Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, fourth at 36 / 100th, makes up for a failed start to winter in a very tight race disputed under a bright sun.

Alexis Pinturault, not at the start on Sunday, retains the lead in the general.
