Bonn (dpa) - The Bonn virologist Hendrik Streeck was horrified about personal hostility against him on the net.
The occasion was a hashtag #SterbenmitStreeck on Twitter.
Critics accuse Streeck of playing down the corona pandemic and accepting deaths.
"If scientific debate and research lead to the call to my demise or die with me with #, that is not only very hurtful, it scares me at how great the hatred and defamation on the Internet has become," wrote Streeck about this on the short message service.
There was also a lot of online support for the virologist.
"In my opinion, anyone who uses the hashtag disqualifies themselves for any serious discussion," wrote another user.
