Police officers that SVT spoke to want the knife law to be followed and that those who carry knives end up in prison instead of receiving daily fines.

- I have never during my years as a police officer heard that someone has been imprisoned for carrying a knife even though it is on the penalty scale, says Reine Berglund, who is a police inspector in Huddinge.

SVT has compiled statistics on how many have died from knife violence and how many have been hospitalized due to stab wounds in recent years.

It shows that the number of people cared for for knife injuries in 2019 was the highest in five years.

In Stockholm County, 212 people were cared for last year.

The police receive an enormous number of knives every week

The police seizure unit in Stockholm city comes in with dozens of knives in different sizes every month.

According to Reine Berglund, there is a big difference between those who carry a knife compared to those who carry firearms.

He feels that some people who are not in criminal circles can carry knives.

- It can be a machete or ordinary table knives.

These knives are destroyed or sold, says Gun Axelsson at the seizure unit.
