Pasewalk (dpa / mv) - The way for a lawsuit by the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald against the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania because of the daycare funding is free.

The district council spoke out on Monday evening with a large majority and against the votes of the SPD in Pasewalk for such a lawsuit.

It is about whether additional costs for daycare financing must be borne by the state or the districts and municipalities, as a spokesman for the district administration said.

The background to this is the new version of the state's day-to-day promotion law (KiföG) and the associated legal deadlines that would expire at the end of 2020.

District Administrator Michael Sack (CDU) had previously emphasized several times that such an approach should not generally call into question the parents' freedom from daycare contributions in the northeast.

According to calculations by the district, which would lead the lawsuit on behalf of all districts in the northeast, additional costs of 8.6 million euros for the district and 2.7 million euros for municipalities have now accumulated.

A spokesman for the Mecklenburg Lake District announced in the evening in Neubrandenburg that the district wants to join the lawsuit.

District Administrator Sack also emphasized that discussions with the country were still ongoing regardless of the lawsuit plans.

Should this be successful, there is no need to file a suit.
