The personal attorney for incumbent US President Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, has tested positive for the corona virus.
Trump announced this on Twitter on Sunday.
The 76-year-old former mayor of New York City is leading legal efforts to tip the election results in the US in favor of Trump - so far without any significant success.
It is the latest of a large number of corona cases in the immediate vicinity of Trump.
Why it was Trump who informed the public about the infection initially remained unclear.
Trump described Giuliani in his Twitter message as "the greatest mayor in New York City history".
He worked “tirelessly” to uncover the “most corrupt election (by far!)” In US history.
The Republican sent his lawyer well-being wishes on Twitter.
"We'll keep going !!!" he added.
Trump hired Giuliani in mid-November to lead legal efforts against the result of the presidential election and the victory of Democrat Joe Biden.
Trump had turned to his confidante after the election campaign advisor David Bossie was actually unable to act due to a coronavirus infection.
