After the tensions with the Conte government on the classification of the red zone and the closure of the ski resorts, the Aosta Valley claims its autonomy from the state powers in the management of the coronavirus health emergency with a regional law.

On the regional bill, approved with 28 votes in favor and 7 abstentions, the center-left majority was divided in the vote: the autonomists (Alliance valdotaine, Stella Alpina, Union valdotaine and Vallée d'Aoste Unie) voted in favor with the groups Lega and Pour autonomie, while the progressives, with the Pd, abstained.

The rule approved by the Valle d'Aosta Regional Council governs the "freedom of movement of citizens, economic activities and social relations, compatibly with the measures to combat the spread of the virus".

In particular, it provides for the Region to intervene, among other things, on the "opening of shops" and on the "practice of sporting activity", similarly to what was done by the Province of Bolzano last spring.

It makes it possible to hold events and demonstrations if "provided for by an ordinance of the President of the Region" and also ecclesiastical or religious events.

A support and coordination unit for the Covid-19 emergency is also established.
