02 November 2020The French police have released three people who had been arrested on suspicion of being involved in the attack on the Islamist knife that took place last Thursday in Nice, in the south of France, which resulted in three deaths.

Three male suspects, aged 47, 35 and 33, were released, AFP reports citing judicial sources.

The 47-year-old was arrested last Thursday, the day of the attack, while the other two were taken the next day.

In addition to the suspected bomber, three other people remain in custody.

Among them is the 29-year-old Tunisian who was arrested on Saturday in Grasse, 25 km from Nice, the agency writes.

The 21-year-old Tunisian who is the main suspect is accused of fatally wounding the sacristan and two other women in the Notre Dame Basilica during the attack.

He remains in the hospital after being stopped by the police, who shot him, and is not yet in a position to be questioned.

The three victims were commemorated yesterday during the All Saints' Mass in the church of Jean-Baptiste Le Voeu in Nice.

According to the mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi, 120 policemen and 60 soldiers have been mobilized to guard the city's churches.

Other French places of worship therefore joined in the memory of the three people killed.

The priests mentioned the attack during services that were authorized despite the new lockdown in the country that began on Friday.
