The incident took place in a residential area just outside Helsingborg on June 10 last year.
The newly moved younger neighbor had recently renovated and moved into a house with his family.
But between him and the 78-year-old in the house next door, the atmosphere was tense.
Played xenophobic music
During interrogation, the family has told how the older neighbor used to play loud music - sometimes with racist lyrics - with the speakers aimed at the newly moved family.
The older man also left a motorcycle without a silencer standing and walking at the plot boundary.
According to the convicted man, it was a way for him to give back because the father in the neighboring family renovated and disturbed him.
One evening in June last year, the newly moved-in man asked his neighbor to turn down the volume.
An exchange of words occurred.
The elder picked up a knife and made racist comments against his new neighbor, according to several witnesses.
It was when the younger man turned around to walk away that he was attacked from behind - with a stab wound to the side.
He was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Claims self-defense
The elderly man claims that he used the knife in self-defense, but the district court believes that it is clear that the victim did not expose the elderly to anything criminal.
The 78-year-old, who was defended by Leif Silbersky, is sentenced to two years in prison for aggravated assault.
He must also pay damages to the victim of almost SEK 60,000.
