A small dog weighing only 2kg has been selected as the'most heroic dog' in the United States.

On the 21st of the local time, foreign media including the US NBC introduced the story of Chihuahua's Mackenzie, who lives in a sheltered animal shelter, surpassing the competing candidates and becoming the'hero dog of the year'.

Born in 2013, Mackenzie was sent to the Mia Foundation, which rescues and protects abandoned animals suffering from birth defects.

He was born with a cleft rupture that splits from the upper lip to the palate and was unable to eat or make any noise.

In addition, he suffered from aspiration pneumonia, which is caused by foreign substances entering the airways, and was faced with death several times.

Shelter staff fed and nursed food and water through a tube connected to Mackenzie's body.

As if Mackendo responded to such efforts, he survived the crisis of life safely, and he grew up to be able to withstand dangerous surgery.

One year after coming to the shelter, Mackenzie underwent a rupture of the palate, and he had a healthy and free life that no longer had to rely on medical devices.

But when he got healthy, Mackenzie began to show a peculiar behavior.

They acted as'guardians' by finding animals that were left alone and separated from their mothers because of their natural disability.

Mackenzie approached not only small puppies but also puppies heavier than himself, licked them carefully, and was there.

Mackenzie's unconditional affection transcends the species.

She approached cats, birds, squirrels, and turkeys first, showing interest, and then began to take care of goats that were 10 times larger than themselves.

Shelter employees were thrilled, saying, "We are trying to become mothers for animals that are suffering the same as they are."

Mackenzie's story of showing love to surrounding animals for 7 years was widely known through social media, and Mackenzie was nominated for the'Hero Dog of the Year' awards ceremony held by the American animal welfare organization'American Humane'.

Mackenzie was the smallest and lightest of the nominees, but won the most votes amid the support of countless people and took first place.

The Mia Foundation said, "The Mackenzie is lighter than the winning trophy. However, the power of love that Mackenzie conveys is stronger than anything else. Mackenzie is truly a hero."
