The source pointed out that "the charge attributed to the detainees by the criminal court prosecutor is attempted joint murder, joint defamation, collective kidnapping, causing a severe disability and forming a gang."

The source said that the punishment, if convicted of these crimes, may amount to death.

The shocking incident took place in Jordan, when the defendants kidnapped the 16-year-old boy in the Zarqa Governorate (23 km northeast of Amman), last Tuesday, and they amputated his hands and gouged his eyes with sharp tools, in revenge against his imprisoned father.

Jordan's King Abdullah II ordered the boy to be treated and rehabilitated at Al-Hussein Medical City in Amman.
