Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (83 years old) is considered one of the most prominent political figures that have witnessed the process of building the State of Kuwait since it gained its independence in 1962, and one of the contributors to building modern Kuwait, laying its foundations and achieving its renaissance.

Sheikh Nawwaf is the sixth son of the tenth Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who ruled Kuwait from 1921 to 1950, and he is also the half-brother of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

Sheikh Nawwaf was born in Kuwait on June 25, 1937, and was brought up in the "Dasman Palace", the ruling house at the time.

Sheikh Nawwaf was educated in regular schools, and for 6 decades he graduated in several positions in the state in which he left clear imprints, and he is one of the officials who enjoyed popular consensus because he has human qualities that are dominated by humility, in addition to the goodness and merit he was entrusted with.

On February 7, 2006, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issued an Amiri order recommending him as Crown Prince, to be pledged allegiance on the 20th of the same month by the National Assembly, before he was sworn in before the Emir of the country, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and the council authorized him to take up the position.

On July 18, 2020, an Amiri order was issued to seek the assistance of Sheikh Nawwaf to practice some of the constitutional prerogatives of the Emir of Kuwait, before Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah entered the hospital for some medical examinations and a successful operation, to be transferred to the United States to complete treatment.

Professional life

Sheikh Nawwaf began his career on February 21, 1962, when the late Emir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah appointed him Governor of "Hawalli", a position in which he remained until March 19, 1978.

During the 16 years spent by Sheikh Nawwaf as governor of Hawalli, which was a village, it witnessed successive leaps during his reign and turned into a commercial and residential center full of modern urbanization and economic activity.

After that, Sheikh Nawwaf graduated in the ministries of interior, defense, social affairs and labor, before assuming the position of deputy head of the National Guard with a ministerial rank, leaving his clear imprints and achievements to his credit.

Sheikh Nawwaf is considered the true founder and spiritual father of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior, as he carried her bag on two terms during the reign of his half-brother, the late Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the first extending from March 19, 1978 to February 26, 1988, before returning to Government formation: On July 13, 2003: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

During his two terms in office, Sheikh Nawwaf worked on developing a strategy for an integrated security system, modernizing security sectors, developing and promoting police work, based on his main goal of maintaining security and stability for Kuwait and its people.

On January 26, 1988, he was appointed Minister of Defense, a position that he returned to occupy again on June 20, 1990, and while he was in the ministry, he worked on modernizing and developing the defense system through two tracks, the first manifested in his keenness to dispatch Kuwaiti soldiers abroad. To train in piloting military aircraft and using various types of weapons and all armor.

As for the second track, it consisted of modernizing and developing camps and supplying them with modern weapons to defend Kuwait by land, sea and air.

Following the liberation from the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, Sheikh Nawwaf was entrusted with assuming the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor from April 20, 1991 until October 17, 1992.

During his tenure, he worked on creating a private hospital for inmates of care homes, in addition to many humanitarian decisions to take care of the elderly, orphans and widows, apart from caring for women and children.

On October 16, 1994, Sheikh Nawwaf assumed the position of Deputy Chief of the National Guard with the rank of minister, to continue holding the position until his return to the government formation on July 13, 2003 as deputy prime minister and minister of interior again.

Sheikh Nawwaf remained in his position until October of the same year, when an Amiri decree was issued appointing him as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and then he was appointed Crown Prince in 2006.

His contributions

During his tenure as the Ministry of Interior, Sheikh Nawwaf participated in many meetings of the Gulf interior ministers, as well as in Arab interior ministers' meetings, and he contributed to building security integration in the GCC and Arab countries, and he was always a champion of uniting the ranks to confront the dangers threatening the region and its countries.

During his tenure, Sheikh Nawwaf supported the efforts of the Emir of Kuwait in the Gulf reconciliation and resolving the Yemeni crisis.

Sheikh Nawwaf is married to Sherifa Suleiman Al-Jasem, and they have 5 children, they are Sheikha Sheikha, and each of the sheikhs is Faisal, Ahmed, Abdullah and Salem.

Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah believes that power and position must be harnessed to support the weak and the oppressed, and that people are equal before the law, and he always stresses that Kuwait is the responsibility of all, and its strength is in the unity and solidarity of its people.
