Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas's chief negotiator, is one of the main players in the ongoing talks in Cairo aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza. The latter act as mediators between Hamas and the Jewish state in open war since the attack on October 7 in southern Israel, which left 1,200 dead according to Israeli counts.

According to the latest report from the Hamas Ministry of Health, more than 30,700 people have been killed in the Palestinian territory since the start of the Israeli response.
