The commander of the Libyan National Army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, announced in a televised speech yesterday, the resumption of production and export of Libyan oil.

Haftar said in a statement that the low standard of living among citizens made the army turn a blind eye to all political and military considerations, indicating that it had been decided, in response to national motives, to resume production and export of Libyan oil.

The Libyan army commander indicated that the export operations of Libyan oil will be subject to measures that ensure a fair distribution of revenues among the people, and that they are not used in support of terrorism.

Haftar pointed out that the decision came after the failure of all the initiatives that were previously presented to solve the Libyan crisis, which, as he described it, focused on power-sharing, without paying attention to the Libyan citizen.

Libya has enormous oil wealth, and ranks fifth in the Arab world in terms of oil reserves, and oil represents about 95% of the total revenues in Libya, and its revenues last year exceeded $ 22 billion.

The Accord Government uses most of this revenue to support and finance militias loyal to it.

A portion of those revenues goes to Ankara in exchange for its "services" for the benefit of the ministries of defense and interior, while a small portion is distributed to the regions.

As for the most important oil field in Libya, it is the "Sirte Basin", which includes 16 fields, which represents about two-thirds of the production.

The “Murzuq Basin” covers a large area in southwestern Libya, and includes the Sharara oil field, which produces 300 thousand barrels per day, equivalent to nearly a quarter of the national production.
