China News Service, September 13th, a comprehensive report that after the "New Diamond" tanker caught fire in the eastern seas of Sri Lanka, it leaked fuel to the sea, causing concerns from all walks of life or causing environmental disasters.

However, the Sri Lankan Navy said on the 13th local time that they have sealed the seawater inlet of the tanker that leaked fuel.

  According to reports, the Sri Lanka Navy diving team inspected the "New Diamond" tanker and found that a seawater inlet leaked fuel.

The Sri Lankan Navy issued a statement saying: "They took immediate action to completely seal the inlet."

  The statement also stated that the "New Diamond" is currently located about 83 kilometers off the east coast of Sri Lanka.

On September 6, local time, in the waters east of Sri Lanka, the rescue ship was extinguishing the fire on the "New Diamond" tanker. 

  In addition, the Dutch rescue company SMIT said that its experts have boarded the tanker and found that 270,000 tons of crude oil cargo was not affected by the fire.

According to the company, “the cargo hold containing the crude oil is intact.” “Discussions about the destination of the vessel are ongoing to transfer the crude oil.”

  In the early morning of the 3rd local time, the "New Diamond" tanker leased by the Indian Petroleum Corporation (IOC) caught fire on the east coast of Sri Lanka.

The tanker was loaded with 270,000 tons of oil, equivalent to about 2 million barrels of oil, and departed from Ahmadi Port in Kuwait to Paradip Port in India.

  On the 7th, the "New Diamond" tanker fire was extinguished and reignited. It was subsequently brought under control, but part of the diesel oil leaked into the sea.

  On the 9th, the Sri Lankan Navy towed the "New Diamond" farther into the sea and found that a kilometer-long oil slick was left on the surface.

  The Marine Environmental Protection Agency of Sri Lanka previously stated that they intend to take legal action against shipowners in accordance with the Sri Lankan Marine Ecological Protection Act.
