What is the human toll?

The alert was given in this nursing home on September 4, with the detection of several positive cases in residents and an employee which had triggered a general campaign of tests in the establishment.

Since this alert, five residents have died.

Currently, four elderly people are still hospitalized, including one in intensive care.

No less than 49 residents are positive for the disease, or three quarters of the elderly.

Why does the Ehpad need reinforcement?

Around 20 employees have also tested positive, which represents half of the staff on sick leave.

The remaining staff, overwhelmed, urgently demanded reinforcement.

"We launched an appeal at the level of the Regional Health Agency, the prefecture and all health establishments in the region," warns Edmond Gros, mayor of the town.

"This week has been really disastrous. There are people who were positive for the virus who continued to work. We will have to replace them, put them to rest, otherwise, they will not hold out. That's something. which is likely to last for some time.

Has help arrived?

"If there are caregivers from all over France who wish to come to Séverac, they can come", continues the mayor, who even undertakes to find accommodation for volunteer carers.

In the meantime, the nursing home staff was able to count on four members of the Civil Protection sent to the establishment this weekend.

The town has even set up a citizens' reserve to find volunteers.

Since Friday, around thirty residents have been helping to transport equipment and prepare meals without direct contact with residents.
