Mondial Relay

We might have forgotten it, but in 2020, Lille is the “World Design Capital”.

Disturbed by the coronavirus crisis, the event will resume this Wednesday in face-to-face mode.

It is on this occasion that the parcel delivery company to individuals, Mondial Relay, based in the North, will present the prototype of its parcel box.

Everyone has seen it, the confinement to stop the Covid-19 epidemic has exploded the figures for online sales and home delivery.

The “second hand” market, in particular for clothing and accessories, via applications such as Vinted, is not to be outdone.

Mondial Relay already has a national network of 9,000 relay points in mini markets, newsagents, dry cleaners, florists… The problem is that these businesses sometimes close.

Hence the idea of developing its own network of parcel boxes available 24 hours a day.

Deployment planned throughout the metropolis of Lille

The object will be in the form of a terminal installed in the public space in which it will suffice to slip the package to be sent, which will have been previously franked online.

“This street furniture will be positioned as close as possible to consumers to simplify the shipment of their sales of second-hand items,” the company explains in a press release.

Such parcel shipping terminals have already been installed in Auchan shopping centers, so the real novelty is the release of an outdoor version.

Mondial Relay will take advantage of Lille, "World Capital of Design", to test its prototype with visitors-consumers.

The idea being to then deploy its pink boxes "in places of life, rural communities and town centers" of the European metropolis of Lille.
