Jordan imposes a curfew in Amman and Zarqa after increasing Corona injuries

On Wednesday, the Jordanian government decided to impose a curfew in the capital, Amman, and the Zarqa Governorate, the day after tomorrow, Friday, due to the increasing number of new coronavirus infections in them.

In June, Jordan abolished the comprehensive ban on Fridays and was satisfied with the daily night ban in all governorates from 23:00 until 6:00 in the morning, but the high number of local injuries in these two governorates since the beginning of this month raised the concern of the authorities and pushed them to return to this option.

"A comprehensive curfew will be implemented throughout Friday, August 28, in the governorates of the capital, Amman and Zarqa (23 km northeast of Amman), in light of the continued increase in cases of Coronavirus in these two governorates," Jordanian Minister of State for Media Affairs Amjad Al-Adaileh said in a press briefing.

"The comprehensive ban aims to reduce the chances and duration of contact (between people) and it is the main reason for spreading Corona infection, and it enables the epidemiological investigation teams to focus their efforts on investigating the hotspots of the epidemic," added Al-Adaileh, the government spokesman.

He explained that implementing "limited closures in a flexible manner contributes to achieving a balance between protecting citizens' health and sustaining the economy."

According to Al-Adaileh, "working medical and nursing personnel are exempt from the ban, while permits will be granted for a limited number of workers to maintain some vital sectors."

According to the Ministry of Health, Jordan has recorded 413 local infections with the new Corona virus since the seventh of this month, after the infections were limited to Jordanians returning from abroad and residing in quarantine places.

To date, Jordan has recorded 1,756 confirmed cases of Coronavirus, and only 15 deaths, according to official figures.
