Three generations after the “Nakba” (“Great Catastrophe”), which the creation of the State of Israel in 1948 represented for the Palestinians. In 1948, with the settlement of thousands of Palestinians in Zarqa, on the outskirts of Amman, Jordan's first refugee camp was established.

A unique case in the region, the Hashemite kingdom has opted for the integration of Palestinian refugees by offering the vast majority of them Jordanian citizenship. Palestinians now make up more than half the population and are considered a driving force in the kingdom's economy.
