Three men, suspected of engaging in jackpotting, were arrested last Thursday by the police in Nîmes (Gard). This modus operandi, which has tended to develop in recent months in France, consists of hacking an automatic teller machine in an attempt to make it obey the finger and the eye.

That night, the police had spotted two individuals with hidden faces, working on a distributor, then another man, suspected of keeping watch. By removing the upper part of the machine, the suspects had attempted to access the computer cables. At the sight of the police, they fled, in different directions.

In a van

The three men, aged in their twenties, were arrested a few hours later, empty-handed, while they were in a van, and placed in police custody.

It is the banker, who got wind of this hacking technique, who led the police officers of the Nîmes departmental security, towards the track of jackpotting.
