The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea has reiterated that "the Korean government can terminate GSOMIA at any time," saying that the notification that it will abolish the military information comprehensive protection agreement with Japan, GSOMIA, is currently suspended.

The Japan-Korea Military Information Comprehensive Protection Agreement (GSOMIA) is automatically extended every year unless either Japan or South Korea notify the destruction. Notice must be given and is due by August 24th each year.

In August last year, the Korean government notified Japan that it would abolish GSOMIA, saying it was a countermeasure against Japan's measures to tighten export controls. Announced that it will suspend the notification as the consultation process progresses.

Regarding GSOMIA, a deputy spokesman for the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said at a regular press conference on Wednesday that reporters asked about the measures and actions of the South Korean government. Originally, the notice of destruction was suspended. The Korean government has the right to terminate it at any time."

"We will continue to call for Japan to withdraw its export control measures through resumption of talks between the authorities," said the deputy spokesman.
