According to reports, the Norwegian Desert Control Technology Company team went to Dubai in early March to use the new technology "Liquid Nanoclay" developed by the company to grow watermelon, zucchini and the cereal crop pearl millet in a desert. Five months later, this barren desert land turned into a fertile field full of fresh fruits and vegetables.

According to reports, this new invention "liquid nano clay" is made of only water and clay. As long as it is sprayed on sand or sandy soil, it can penetrate and adhere to sand grains, improve the water retention capacity of sand, and provide necessary nutrients for plants to survive.

The company said that this technology can improve the originally nutrient-poor sandy soil, greatly increase its fertility, and can reduce water consumption by more than half. More importantly, it can turn dry land into arable land in just 7 hours.

The company’s chief executive Sifterson explained that this technology was invented by Norwegian scientist Christian Orison, which can turn heavy clay into a liquid almost as thin as water. Any known irrigation technique can be used to apply the "liquid nanoclay", even sprinklers can be used.

Sifterson said that 90% of the UAE's food is imported. Therefore, growing crops in the desert to increase food production has become the country's top priority. As global desertification intensifies, innovations that allow crops to thrive in arid regions may help support food supplies in many countries. (Zhao Xi)
