Wall Street was evolving close to balance Friday at the start of the session the day after a decline in a market closely following the streaming giant Netflix, whose action plunged after the publication of its quarterly results.

The Nasdaq, with a strong technological coloring, dropped for its part 0.01% to 10,473.07 points.

The New York market finished in the red on Thursday, digesting the quarterly results of several big names in the New York market and mixed indicators on the economic front: the Dow Jones fell for the first time in five sessions losing 0 , 50% and the Nasdaq had given up 0.73%.

"Markets have been digesting the recent round of positive global economic data and the unofficial kick-off to earnings season" since the start of the week, analysts at Charles Schwab note.

The first big name in the technology sector to report on its balance sheet between April and June, Netflix said Thursday evening that it had attracted more than 10 million new subscribers in the second quarter, benefiting particularly from confinement in many countries.

However, the group's outlook is much weaker in the third quarter (+2.5 million subscribers expected) and its profits turned out to be lower than expected.

As a result, the title of Netflix fell by 6.69% at the start of the session.

"Netflix is going to be an interesting case study for the market, which will wonder if this weakness is considered an opportunity to invest or if it becomes a turning point slowing the momentum of the market and announces other similar movements", observes Patrick O'Hare of Briefing.com.
