The Moroccan authorities decided to re-impose sanitary measures in the city of Tangier, in the north of the Kingdom, as of yesterday, following the registration of new epidemics of the emerging epidemic of Corona virus (Covid-19) in the city. In a statement, the Moroccan Ministry of Interior said: "It was decided to expand the targeted geographical area with strict restrictions and measures, to include all of the territorial area of the city of Tangier."

The restrictions include the suspension of travel to and from the city, which is the second economic hub in the Kingdom, by bus and train, and the closure of public baths, halls, sports fields, cafes, public spaces and commercial centers. It also includes "tightening monitoring, in order to urge female citizens and citizens to stay with their homes and not go out except for the extreme necessity, as movement within the territorial area of the city of Tangier is required to obtain a license for extraordinary mobility delivered by the local authority."

The statement pointed out that "the easing of these measures remains linked to the development of the epidemiological situation in the city."

Morocco had imposed a quarantine on all of its territory, since last March, to deal with the spread of the epidemic, eased in two stages in June. However, sanitary procedures continued in some cities, in which professional hotspots were registered with strawberry fields (northwest), and in fish canning factories in Safi (southwest).

The death toll from the virus exceeded 15,800, nearly 20% of which were recorded in Tangier and its environs, according to the Moroccan Ministry of Health.

And last week, the authorities decided to extend the state of health emergency until August 10, which allows for extraordinary measures. The application of protective masks remains mandatory in all the territories of the Kingdom of Morocco.

Morocco has recorded 15,000 cases of the virus ... 20% of it in Tangier and its environs.
