Just next to Campus Valla, the company Bygg Vesta opens up close to 400 new student apartments with occupancy in early 2021. This is a doubling of their portfolio in Linköping. Studentbostäder AB completes 85 new student accommodation in Lambohov and another 20 in Ryd during the autumn and around the turn of the year.

- This is a big increase historically, it was a long time since so many student housing was completed at about the same time, says Simon Helmér CEO of Studenterbostäder AB.

How much difference does this make in a year when students apply for housing?

- It should give some effect and simplify for students to find housing, but we will need to continue to build more in the future, since most students live in the regular housing market after all. Plus we believe that international students will still be more at the university after the corona, says Simon Helmér.

More planned projects

There are also plans for around 400 student apartments, including Ryd, Gotfridsberg and Lasarettsbacken.

- Our hope is that in 2021 we get the shovel in the ground around one of the projects. But construction permits are not clear yet. In Ryd, for example, the detailed plan is appealed because of question marks about aircraft noise, says Simon Helmér.
