The German Alzheimer's Research Initiative said that cardiovascular problems raise the risk of developing Alzheimer's, explaining that these problems prevent oxygen and nutrients from reaching the brain properly.

Therefore, the initiative stressed the necessity of conducting regular checks of blood pressure, cholesterol values and heart rate rates to discover the problems and treat them in a timely manner.

She explained that Alzheimer's is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that usually begins slowly and gets progressively worse over time.

Usually, it begins with difficulty in remembering recent events, and as the disease progresses, symptoms of language problems, disorientation, mood swings, decreased motivation, inability to take care of oneself, and behavioral problems appear.

As the person's condition deteriorates, the patient often withdraws from the family and community environment. Gradually he loses his bodily functions, which ultimately leads to death.

To prevent Alzheimer's, the initiative recommends the following:

  • Maintaining the heart through a healthy lifestyle based on healthy nutrition rich in vegetables and fresh fruits.
  • Reducing salt and fat.
  • Quitting alcohol and smoking.
  • Keep up with exercise.
  • Performing various intellectual activities, such as reading, solving crossword puzzles, Sudoku, playing chess and playing musical instruments.
  • Maintaining social media.
