Kim Jong visited the Sun Palace "Komsosan", where the mausoleum of his late father, former leader Kim Jong-il and his grandfather Kim Il-sung is located, according to Yonhap News.
The visit comes on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the death of Kim Il-sung who passed away in 1994.
The Korean Central News Agency said that the main assistants accompanied him on the visit, including No. 2 leader Choi Rong-hee and First Vice-Chairman of the State Affairs Committee Park Bong Jo and Prime Minister Kim Jae Ryung. .
Kim's visit to the shrine coincided with the visit of US nuclear envoy Stephen Pigeon to South Korea to discuss ways to denuclearize North Korea.
North Korea has repeatedly said it does not intend to sit down with the United States, rejecting the possibility of resuming dialogue with the United States before Pigeon arrives in South Korea.
