The death this week of a young black man allegedly by police shots fired in Havana in unclear circumstances has shocked Cubans, while island authorities and state media have so far remained silent about the event.

The incident, which occurred in the Guanabacoa neighborhood , on the outskirts of the capital, was made known by relatives of the deceased boy through the social network Facebook, where a woman named Lenia Patiño who identified herself as the young man's aunt published a photo of the face of the corpse and some details of what happened.

The deceased, identified as Hansel Ernesto Hernández Galiano, was 26 years old and allegedly died as a result of shots fired by police officers who fled, although more details of what happened are unknown. The family assures that Hansel was not armed . Efe contacted the young man's relatives who reported what happened on social networks, without obtaining a response.

An incident of this type is something very rare in Cuba, where the regulations that govern police action strictly prohibit officers from using their firearms except in exceptional cases, such as their physical integrity being at risk.

The lack of official explanations about such a serious and unprecedented event on the island has also caused outrage for many Cubans on social networks, where a call for a protest demonstration is being broadcast this Friday in front of a well-known cinema in the central neighborhood of Vedado.

Demonstrations in the Caribbean country require the permission of the authorities, an authorization rarely granted to independent civil society organizations.
