An exchange of fire in the city of Minneapolis, in the northern United States, killed one person and injured 11 others, police said Sunday.

Pictures posted on Facebook showed at least one person lying on the ground and scores of people around him, some of whom were asking for help, and other pictures showing shops whose windows were broken and police cars.

"12 people were shot," the Minneapolis police said in a tweet. "An adult died and 11 were injured, possibly fatal," he said.

The police had asked, via tweet, of all citizens to avoid going to the area where the shooting occurred, and the identity and ages of those who were shot were not clear, and whether any of the suspects in this incident were arrested.

The city witnessed massive protests against racism and police violence, after the death of the African American citizen, George Floyd, while being arrested by the police in this city itself.
