April 19, 2019Nurse Fausta Bonino was sentenced to life imprisonment for four of the suspected deaths of patients in the ward and acquitted for the other six cases because the fact does not exist. Also acquitted for abuse of office. The sentence was read after five hours in the council chamber by judge Marco Sacquegna. The trial was held in an abbreviated rite.
Nurse 57 / year old was accused of multiple voluntary murder for the suspected deaths of 10 patients in the resuscitation department of the Piombino hospital between 2014 and 2015. The prosecutor had asked for life imprisonment, while the defense, with the same Bonino, who had always proclaimed his innocence, had supported the technical impossibility of involving the nurse and asked for absolution for not having committed the fact for nine of the deceased patients and in one case because the case does not exist. "The division of the cases surprised us - commented defense attorney Cesarina Barghini - and we will certainly appeal".

"It's not fair, I didn't do anything". So, speaking in tears, Fausta Bonino on leaving the courtroom of Livorno after listening to the sentence. The woman was accompanied by her husband and one of two children.
