The Civil Guard keeps open the investigation that tries to clarify what happened in Arenas , a small municipality in Malaga, just a year ago. A usually quiet town, whose inhabitants were surprised at the arrival of last summer by the disappearance of one of their neighbors, Dana Leonte, who lost track on June 12, 2019 . Despite the fact that many details remain to be specified, there are certain determining aspects in the investigation, such as the discovery of the skeletal remains of the young woman.

From the beginning, the Civil Guard pointed out that the young woman disappeared "for no apparent reason" and the case was acquiring new nuances as the security forces took new steps around the circle closest to the young woman. Although the investigations are progressing at a slower speed than expected, the researchers' line has long been straight towards a name of its own: that of Sergio Ruiz, the aforementioned partner, with whom he had a daughter of only a few months. It is the great one pointed out after a strange disappearance of which details were slowly revealed, and which had a turning point in last September, when a series of skeletal remainsthey appeared near his home. The Civil Guard has confirmed that these bones could belong to one of the extremities or part of the spine, thus certifying that the woman would be dead and would have been dismembered.

The suspect continues to deny his relationship to the events

The residents of the municipality and nearby towns were involved from the first day in the case, with the intention of helping to clarify the whereabouts of Dana. The young woman ran a bar in Arenas, where she was seen hours before disappearing, and whose waitress testified as a witness regarding Dana's partner, Sergio Ruiz. The latter has been in prison since September 28, investigated for an alleged crime of homicide.

Although he always denied it, investigators focused on Sergio, appealing to various contradictions and the location of remnants of bleach in the house they both shared. Also, the man's reasons for Dana's departure also failed to convince investigators. Although Sergio affirmed that the young woman had left due to the debts she was facing, her family and those closest to her were convinced that for no reason would she abandon her daughter.

The main hypothesis points to a strong discussion between Dana and Sergio, after which the person investigated was able to end the life of his partner. Investigators are still working and have more bones to analyze, such as those found in November during a battle for the area for which the agents asked for collaboration from mountaineers and hunters given the difficult terrain.

Regarding this relationship, the employee told the judge that "Sergio and Dana were doing very well and jokingly" that afternoon, to which she added that the investigated person was the first to leave the bar, because "Dana went to do some shopping, he returned to the bar around 4.30 pm, and a little later he said goodbye and supposedly went home, "he said.

In his statement, he explained that he continued to contact Dana Leonte through the afternoon on the phone "and at one point he told me he had a problem", although he did not specify what it was about. Somewhat later (he placed these events at around 8:30 pm) he said he had received a message from Dana, to which he could not reply until a couple of hours later. The Romanian girl never answered. An hour later, as he related, Sergio showed up at the bar and said that they had been robbed and asked if he knew where Dana was, "but I told her that she had not returned to the bar; then I called her again and I did not receive calls or she answered, because her cell phone was off, "said the waitress.

The investigation maintains that Dana died as a result of several blows to the head, which is still a hypothesis. Meanwhile, Sergio Ruiz remains in prison, unable to face the payment of bail, which his defense has asked to downgrade up to two times. Initially, the Provincial Court set a bond of 25,000 euros, which it later placed at 17,000 for his release. The defendant says he does not have that money and his lawyers are urging a further reduction, which will leave bail at 6,000 euros.
