EU calls on internet giants to further fight pandemic misinformation

The relationship between the European Union and the giants of the Internet, mostly American, is not always in good shape, but once is not custom: the vice-president of the Commission for transparency Vera Jourova has "  hailed  "the actions already taken by these behemoths and she supported Twitter in her showdown with Donald Trump.

The Commissioner asked them to do more to combat what she called a huge wave of disinformation about the pandemic. The European Union is asking these platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Google to publish a monthly report on their actions to counter this phenomenon. 

Platform reports should relate to the nature of the disinformation, the size of the network involved, its geopolitical origin and its target.

The European Union had already obtained platforms that they put forward information from the World Health Organization (WHO) and that they remove the advertisements on fake medicines.
