The commemorative event was held at the headquarters square in the town of Nagura in southern Lebanon. UNIFIL Commander Del Kerr issued a certificate of honor specifically for Xin Yuan.
Del Cole said that on the International Day of Peacekeepers, the award of the Military Gender Advocacy Award honorary certificate to the female military officer Xin Yuan from China is an affirmation and recognition of her professional dedication in her hard and dangerous mine clearance work. The United Nations Military Gender Equality Advocate Award was established in 2016 to commend peacekeepers who have made outstanding contributions and efforts in promoting UN Resolution 1325 on promoting women, peace and security. Xin Yuan is the only person nominated by UNIFIL to the United Nations Headquarters and is the first Chinese peacekeeper female soldier to receive this honor.
