The French Ministry of the Interior responded to Britain's announcement to impose a 14-day quarantine on travelers coming from abroad, especially from France, by saying, "We take note of the decision of the British government and regret it."

"France is ready to impose a similar measure once the decision enters into force on the British side," the ministry added in a statement yesterday.

And it said in a joint statement between the ministries of the Interior, Europe and Foreign Affairs and Health Friday evening, that "(travelers will be required to submit) to a voluntary quarantine as a way of reciprocity."

"Travelers from the United Kingdom, whatever their nationality, will be invited to submit to a 14-day quarantine when the announced British measure takes effect," the statement added.

It connects France and Britain, especially the Eurostar train, which runs through a tunnel under the surface of the English Channel.

France announced on May 14 that it intends to impose a stone on travelers coming from Spain as a reciprocity, as Madrid decided to impose this measure on all arrivals from abroad.

The joint statement indicated that in practice, "only foreign travelers from Spain will be invited from Monday, to submit to a voluntary quarantine." He added, "This includes Spanish and French travelers of all nationalities."

The statement stated that a "voluntary stone" would be offered to the French or permanent residents of France coming from outside the European Union in their home or in a designated place of shelter.

An exception is made from this decision, except in the event of symptoms appearing, transit passengers and workers who cross the border permanently, members of aircraft crews, cargo truck drivers, bus and train drivers and workers therein, and personnel of trade and fishing vessels.

Health workers who contribute to the battle against Coved-19, members of diplomatic missions and international organizations based in France, members of the security forces returning from their missions, and people with a compelling family motive are also excluded.

Whatever country they travel from, all travelers must possess an exceptional international travel certificate and a statement confirming that Covid-19 symptoms do not appear. With regard to travelers from outside the European Union (all countries of the world except the United Kingdom, Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland and the Vatican), the statement indicates that "the principle that still exists today and until further notice is to close the borders and thus prevent entry."

Paris: Travelers from the UK, regardless of their nationality, will be invited to undergo a 14-day quarantine when the British measure enters into force.
