Saint-Laurent-du-Var is bereaved by the suicide of the director of a primary school in the city. The man was found by rescue on Saturday, hanged on the premises of the school he had run for twenty years, according to a source familiar with the matter. The reasons for his action have not been specified.
A man "passionate about school"
Aged 64, he was married and the father of two children. According to Mayor Joseph Segura, who moved to the site, he was a man "passionate about school". He was due to retire soon, after twenty years spent running the school. "He was unanimous, among his colleagues and the parents of students, especially for his involvement," said his side, the academy inspector of Nice, Michel-Jean Floc'h, also present on the scene. "He has never had any sick leave in his career."
The small establishment of five classes and 120 pupils, located in a rather privileged district, had reopened on May 11 for deconfinement, with 11 pupils. It will remain open, with from Monday 42 students enrolled. A psychological unit has been set up.
