Claes Borgström was a lawyer in many well-known criminal cases, including a defense lawyer for Thomas Quick.

He was also the plaintiff's assistant to the two women in the case of the rape suspicions against Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

Borgström became Sweden's first male equality ombudsman in 2000, a post he held until 2007.

The following year he became a spokesperson on gender equality issues for the Social Democrats. In November 2013, he left S to join the Left Party.
